Suggest Treatment For Headache And Neck Pain When Suffering From BP
Question: I was taking Stamlobeta for the past 13 years without any problem, but now my cardiologist has changed to Prolomet AM 50 and Rozavel F 20. My cholesterol is 222. I started this new medication from 5th. MAY 2014 and started experiencing severe headache and the BP was 150/100 at night. As the doctor is away the assistant has given me minipress XL 5 mg. BP is now in control but the severe headache and neck pain is still there. BP is 130/90.
What should I do?? My doctor will return on the 20th. May. should I revert back to Stamlobeta ????

1. A severe headache and neck pain can not be only explained by a BP readings of 150/100 mmHg or 130/90 mmHg. There has to be some other reason for same. Since you are well controlled on current medication, it may not be advisable to change on your own. Only a qualified medical practitioner should change it.
2. Sometime we do have certain side effects even due to a change of brand of medicine. Like in this case, Stamlobeta has amlodipine and Prolomet AM also has amlodipine (beside the diferrent betablocker in two), but change of brand may only be responsible for certain side effects.
3. More importantly, Both rosuvastatin and finofibrate (the medicines in Rozavel F) are associated with headache as side effect. They may be a more likely culprit rather than the Prolomet AM.
4. It would be best to consult your GP and try to ascertain the cause of this headache and neck pain, which may be neurological or local. If no other cause could be delineated, only then, you should think of getting the medicines changed.
