Brief Answer: Surgery is the treatment of choice Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic. Hiatus hernia is caused by herniating of the part of stomach in the chest. Hiatus hernia causes regurgitation, acid reflux, and indigestion. Hiatus hernia can be treated by surgery wherein the herniated portion of stomach is replaced back into the abdominal cavity. You need to consult a gastrosurgeon for further management. In the meanwhile the symptoms can be controlled by taking a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. Consult your doctor for prescription of the drug till you undergo surgery. If you have more queries, I will be glad to answer. Dr Shailja P Wahal
