Question: I went to the doctor today and he said he believes these are just hemmorhoids, but I think that it looks like herpes. Your thoughts?

There is a big difference in appearance between the two. Herpes is generally a very red with small bumps, where as hemorrhoids are very large and usually not red. Hemorrhoids usually bleed, where as herpes do not.

Thanks. Does this look like hemmorhoids? The doctor did an internal and said he felt internal and external hemmorhoids. He said there are things that look like skin tags on the outside of my rectum. All I know is that they werent there on Wednesday and then all of the sudden they were there Thursday. I have a tingling sensation on my left thigh, like nerve pain which led me to think herpes. I do not have any lymph node swelling that I can feel.

Brief Answer:
Hello. These are not hemorrhoids

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

These don't look anything like hemorrhoids or skin tags, but they do look like a herpes eruption.

You need to be screened for both Herpes 1 and 2 and I would also scrape the area and sent that to the lab for cultures.

Please let me know if you need any more information

That's what I thought. You can get herpes on the rectum without having anal sex?

Brief Answer:
Yes you can.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

Yes that's still possible. A herpes eruption can occur anywhere there's been any skin-to-skin contact and not from anal sex.

Brief Answer:
You need the proper diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

Well, first off, it needs to be established that this is a herpetic eruption. Since I can't examine you, I can only go by your photo.

Secondly, after the clinical examination (by preferably a proctologist), once it's confirmed, anti-herpetic medications can be started which work pretty well, so don't worry.
