Brief Answer:
Weight & Hormones

Detailed Answer:
Endocrinologists look for potential hormone related causes of weight gain.

When someone like your son's profile comes to me for such a matter, I order the following tests in addition to a thorough physical examination :

CBC
CMP
TSH
FreeT4
IGF1
Midnight Salivary Cortisol
Serum Testosterone (no later than 9 am)
SHBG
HbA1c
Fasting Lipid Profile

These tests look for conditions that tend to cause weight gain and gynecomastia.

TSH and Free T4 are screening tests for an under active thyroid (Hypothyroidism)

IGF1 is a blood test to screen for a rare condition called Acromegaly

Midnight Salivary Cortisol is to evaluate for another uncommon condition called Cushing's syndrome

Low male hormone levels can cause weight gain and gynecomastia. That is why I suggest checking blood testosterone levels

Dr. Topiwala,
Thank you for your help on this. I personally have been tested for some of these myself because I have had weight gain (mainly in my belly) over the last few years that has been excessive. I also have classic metabolic syndrome and unfortunately my son already has high Trigs and is on Gemfibrozil.

I was going to take him to a plastic surgeon for liposuction, but checking for these things seems like a better idea until we know if something is going on.

Thank you, XXXXXXX

Thanks for checking. did get alot of lab results and
More to come. My hands are numb and Neuro doing nerve tests soon. Joints very sore so saw Rheumatologist. He ordered a ton of tests too. Everyone thinks all may be diabetes related, but my morning sugars are below 150 and I take Novolog pen fast acting prior to meals. He said sonething about a joint pain syndrome related to diabetes? Do not have those labs yet. Here are all my others if u are interested. You might be sorry u checked in:)

Detailed Answer:
I am not clear here. The original query was in relation to your son. But are the attached lab reports his?

Your original query seems unrelated to the most recent problem you are describing. It is as if it is for you this time.
