Suggest Treatment For Gum Infection

Question: I have had a low grade gum infection since Feb. 2016 which sometimes causes swelling in my cheek. Does this affect my immune system and make me more vulnerable to flus and colds?

Thanks for the query..

As per your complain if you have gum Infection that is also causing swelling of cheek then there is probability that you might be having a decayed tooth that can cause swelling of gum and cheek..

However tooth and gum Infection is not commonly seen to severely effect the immune system and cause cold or flu..

But, at times deep Infection in gums and teeth if it is in upper jaw teeth can cause Infection in the sinuses..
This can cause cold like symptoms due to Sinus infection..

So please answer the following questions so that I can guide you better..

1.Do you have any decayed tooth?
2.Is Infection present in any localised portion of gums or your entire gums are swollen/infected?
3. Is it present in upper or lower jaw teeth?
4.Do you have pain along with swelling?
5.Do you have cold like symptoms or is it also associated with fever?
6.Do you have any medical problems or are you on any medications?

Yes, I have a one decayed root in the upper jaw. The gum is swollen in that particular area, and, frequently, in the sinus area of my cheek. I have been prone to more colds since this started. I just recently finished a round of antibiotics for a chest infection. I now have a mild cold again. I take a beta blocker.

Well, the symptoms are appearing due to sinus infections caused due to tooth decay..

Taking antibiotics alone will not resolve the problem completely, so you need to get the tooth treated..

You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like x ray can help in ruling out the exact condition of the tooth..

If tooth can be saved then Root Canal Treatment can help in resolving the symptoms permanently followed by antibiotics and painkillers..

If there is gross decay extraction is advisable..

This is the best possible way to progress for the treatment to prevent further complications..
