Question: Hi i have a peanut sized lump in between my upper thigh and growing. Its right where i previously had surgery when i 20 on a hernia. Have been lifting alot of heavy things the past couple of weeks, not to mention some hard coughing due to my weed smoking habit. It doesn't hurt so far but does exhibit some discomfort in my growing. I think the mesh broke from the previous surgery. Can someone help me?

Brief Answer:
Can be hernia only if it is reducible, expansible ...

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

To recapitulate:
you are 26/M - has hernia surgery when you were 20 years old - that is 6 years back and had a mesh repair - lifting heavy objects for couple of weeks and smoke weeds causing hard coughing -> Now have a peanut sized lump at the site of previous surgery of hernia- does not hurt - but discomfort - Wants to know what it is ...

The simplest differential diagnosis is thus made:
The hernia:
- is always reducible, meaning gets reduced on lying down position and on pressure.
-Expansible , meaning bulges out if you cough or strain.
-usually painless unless obstructed.

Another possibilities are:
-A lymph node
-Sebaceous cyst
-Granuloma
All these are not expansible, not reducible, get painful if infected.

Now you can decide by examining on your own and still better get examined by a Doctor / Surgeon to get a confirmed diagnosis and get treated accordingly.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications if you feel there is a gap of communication.
