Suggest Treatment For Gastritis

Question: I just finished going through the WEB MD symptom checker. Got many possible answers, but the one at the top (most likely is peptic ulcer). Can you lead me from here?

In the past, there have been two things that seem to have brought this on.
1. Drinking too much coffee, which isn't the case now. I switched to green tea, problem went away before. Drinking a little tea now, no coffee, problem(discomfort) is not serious, but persistent, interrupts sleep but ok during day with food.
2 About two years ago, Dentist gave me some prescription toothpaste with heavier flouride in it, which brought on this same syndrome, took some time for me to figure it out. Dr noticed rise in liver toxicity via test. Stopped the toothpaste, liver test was good after that, symptoms went away. Moved to a city that has higher flouride water system. Could this be it? (I know, getting more complex).

Should next step be testing for bacteria causing ulcer?

Brief Answer:
Likely to be gastritis. Omeprazole

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome.
I would like to know what are your symptoms.?
I feel it is likely to be gastritis rather than peptic ulcer.

To address the gastritis , it is very important to follow both pharmacological and non pharmacological . measures.
I'll mention them it will be beneficial.

Take omeprazole 20 mg twice daily half an hour before food, for 15 days, which is acid reducing agent and will be helpful.
Apart from the medication --
Avoid spicy and oily food for few days till the symptoms are resolved. Avoid or reduce the intake of meat, dairy products, and add more fiber to your diet. Eat lots of salads, vegetables, fresh fruits. Avoid fried and oily food.

Avoid excess consumption of tea/ coffee/ hydrogenated drinks. Avoid smoking and alcohol, if any.

Eat frequent small meals instead of heavy ones and do not starve. Take plenty of water.

Regular exercise is very much essential. Brisk walk every day for 30 minutes in the morning and then slowly increase the dura if time permits. Follow this measures your symptoms should reduce.
If this doesn't help we have to rule out H pylori infection.

Hope this helps, I'll be glad to address your further queries.
Take care.
