Suggest Treatment For Fungus Infection On The Scalp

Question: is this fungus scalp infection.? it itches that's about it.

I am dr.kakkar (dermatologistp. I have gone through your query and I have viewed the image.
This is scalp seborrheic dermatitis which presents as dull red erythema, itching and scaling on scalp. Fungus (yeast - malassezia furfur) is an etiological factor.
I suggest you to use an antifungal shampoo e.g nizoral shampoo every alternate days. Lather it well onto scalp and allow it to act for 10 minutes. In addition you may also apply a topical steroid lotion e.g mometasone furoate 0.1 lotion, twice daily, on the affected scalp skin.

Hi.

Nizoral 1% ketoconazole is an antifungal shampoo it is available over the counter (OTC). You may also use Selenium sulphide 2.5% OTC shampoo. Mometasone furoate 0.1% lotion is a prescription topical steroid.
Seborrheic dermatitis is not an infection from outside. It is endogenous condition though yeast is thought to play a role. It is a form of dandruff and it requires maintenance with an antifungal shampoo.

Regarding management of seborrheic dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Seborrheic dermatitis can have a seasonal variation. It is more common in winters. Stress as well application of hair oil may have a role to play in flaring it up.
You may try an antifungal shampoo alone for a few days and see how it works all by itself. Lather it well on affected area and allow it to act for 10 minutes and then rinse it off.
If shampoo alone proves insufficient then you may need to apply a topical steroid lotion. Topical steroid lotion is a prescription medications and would work much better.
