Question: Dear Doctar,

I am 36 years of age, Male.
During a recent visit to a Skin care specialist to consult on my condition of getting small pimples/acnes and white secretions on pressing from areas on my face (Cheeks, Nose). I have been getting these from a young age of 12/13 till now and have not stopped appearing even when i am 36 now.
What results in this kind of skin condition? I believe its due to over active male harmones in the body.

I was finally recommended to use EPIDUO Gel in the nights and also take Fluconazole Tablets (1 every week for 6 weeks).
I would like to consult what is the the function of the Fluconazole tablets on my Skin condition. I do not believe i have symptoms of any fungal infection. Can these tablets just be taken as a prevention or kill any internal fungal infection. Are these safe to take ?

Brief Answer:
Acne

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Your description suggests that you are suffering from acne.
As you mentioned rightly it is due to hormones and excessive oil production by sebaceous glands.
Fluconazole being an antifungal has no role in treatment of acne.
Hope you dont have any other skin condition like ring worm for which doctor has prescribed you fluconazole.
I treat acne cases with a combination of benzoyl peroxide cream in night and clindamycin gel in morning.
You must use an oil controlling face wash like tea tree oil twice daily and reduce oily food.
This should help you.
If possible upload a photograph of the involved area.
This will help me in giving a closer diagnosis and better way of management..
Waiting for your response.
Thank you.
