Brief Answer:
treatment of
Fibromyalgia and Osteoporosis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good day.
Fibromyalgia and Osteoporosis are 2 seperate conditions and management dffers.
Fibromyalgia is a
chronic pain condition where you have multiple pain spots in body. You may need a combination of stretching exercises, PAin killers , Yoga,
Meditation, relaxation exercises etc. Certain anti depressive medications also helps. It is importnat to rule out other conditions like Vitamin D deficiency. It may be a good idea to get your Vitamin D checked.
Naturopathy, massage etc also helps.
Osteoporosis is a condition in which you lose
bone density and bone becomes weaker. Again there are several reasons. You should take sufficient Vitamin D and Calcium . Do a regular exercise programe. Get a DXA scan. If the osteoporosis is mild, then you need drugs like Vitamin D, Calcium and pills like Bifosa. If DXA scan shows more severe degree of osteoporosis, then you may need an yearly dose of IV anti osteoporotic drug ( called as Zoldronate). In case of very
severe osteoporosis, we give treatment with Teriparetide ( a bone forming drug) for few months or many other newer medicines.
It is very importnat to establish the cause of Osteoporosis. Your GP or
Endocrinologist will help you out with this. They may need to calculate your osteoporosis fracture risk by using an online risk engine called FRAX score. This will help them to help you with treatment.
