Suggest Treatment For Fever While On Dolo And Dydrogesterone
Question: Hello...iam xxxxxxxx...from XXXXXXX ...my wife is pregnant (6weeks). She had developed fever yesterday...we went and consulted a gynaecologist...she adviced to take Tab.Dolo 650 TID, Tab.Dydrogesterone 10mg TID. and Tab.PantoprazoleI40mg OD.......there was no history of bleeding or spotting through vagina .....but is it safe to take Dydrogesterone during first trimester ?.. How can fever affect pregnancy? We have not started to take Dydrogesterone yet as we are very much scared....Does the fever cause harm to the developing fetus? Can we start Dydrogesterone?..waiting for the reply ...thank u

I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Effect of the fever on the developing fetus depends upon the type of infection causing fever.
If it is normal seasonal viral fever, then there is nothing to worry. Only paracetamol and rest is advised, and it will have no effect on the fetus or pregnancy
However, if the fever is associated with any rash on the body, then it can be due to TORCH (toxoplasma, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus and Herpes) Viruses which can cause congenital anomalies in the fetus.
Dydrogesterone is safe in first trimester of pregnancy, though its prescription for fever is not justifiable.
You should clarify the reason for starting dydrogesterone in fever. Its indications are threatened abortion, bleeding, subchorionic hemorrhage etc.

Hello doctor.....We have clarified the reason to start the medicine and she told that this medicine will help to maintain the pregnancy...but our doubt is that she doesn't have any signs of threatened abortion or there is no history of recurrent miscarriages..she was febrile for just one day..so we hope that this is just a seasonal viral fever...and we have done few investigations and it shows that dengue,typhoid,malaria etc were negative (urine culture report is still pending)...we are bit confused...whether to start this medicine or not...no she is fine and afebrile...please give your valuable suggestion...
