Suggest Treatment For Fever In A Child
Question: Hi Sir,
I am XXXX XXXXXXX my daughter was 19months old and weight 12kgs.
yesterday baby was suffered from fever (101.5c) and doctor given medicines ZIFI-50 AND COMBIFLAMME.
yesterday night dose completed.
Today morning body temperature slightly raised and combiflamme suspension given to the child, after the dose child body became very cold. why this was happened ? please reply
combiflamme dose was 5ml thrice daily.

Most often fevers in children is due to viral infection. Antibiotics like Zifi 200 (Cefixime) do not help in viral infections but if you have started it, please complete the course. Rather than giving thrice a day, I would insist you to give combiflam or paracetamol only when required (temperature more than 100°F), in order to bring down the temperature. Also give tepid sponging. Such fevers may cause the peripheral blood vessels of the skin to collapse, thus limiting the heat exchange, making the extremities feel cold and clammy.
I would insist you to get her blood counts checked in order to rule out any fulminant infection.

What is peripheral vascular collapse , is it serious condition.
Actually day before yesterday my child had small injured at soft palate area in the mouth with toys.
One more thing can I use cefpodoxime proxetill antibiotic instead of cefixime. In combination with combiflamm oral suspension.
Baby weight was 12kg and 19months old.
