Question: my daughter is 3 years old, weighs 14 kg. she is now suffering from fever with temperature 100 deg Fahrenheit. She said she has head ache. doesnt have sneezing or coughing. I gave her half of a paracetamol tablet(500 mg), her temperature became normal only after one and a half hour. I would like to know about ayurvedic medicines which help to lower fever. is amritarishtam effective for fever? I am specifically asking about this medicine as it is available at our house and it is not possible to consult any doctor at this hour at night.

Brief Answer:
symptom wise approach

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following are the recommended guidelines:

1. Most fevers encountered in general practice are viral, self limiting, and require only symptomatic treatment but if fever does not reduce or again appear, investigate in details or consult a Physician [pediatrician]

2. Since it is not possible to consult a Doctor at this moment, so best what can be done is:

. Cold compresses or ice bag - over forehead, axillae, neck etc.
. bed rest with blankets.
. semi solid or liquid diet [soft rice with milk/ghee, plain daal, electrolytes [Oral rehydration Solution [ORS]
. avoid exposure to wind, avoid bath - only sponging

3. 'Amrita arishta' is usually safe in children above 3 years of age, but can be given in lower dose of: 5ml with equal amount of water. [after food] twice daily
PS. since in children the organ system is not fully matured and 'Arishta' contains self fermented alcohol which may cause gastric irritation in some thus check the same if it happens to your daughter

PS. ayurvedic medicine which help to control/lower fever [which I usually prefer in my clinic] is/are:
. feverex [dhanwantri]: 1 tsf thrice daily
. BABE KOF Syrup [Arya] : 1/2 to 1 tsf with warm water.
