Suggest Treatment For Fever, Cold And Cough

Posted on Tue, 28 Apr 2015
Question: Hi doc,
Thanks for ur advice.
We are cooling the room as per ur instruction.
Giving him breast milk or diluted orange juice(2 oranges per day) atleast every 40 minutes. He is not taking more than that and spitting up or not opening mouth if i try to overfeed.
Still urine frequency is very less. Yesterday only 4-5 timees and today only once.
He is not sweating also. Wondering where all these liquids are going.
Today also stool is normal. Not watery.
Yesterday we gave 4 drops of paracetamol( we got during last vaccination.) To bring down the temperature. After that his temperature is normal. But he got cold and cough by today morning. Not severe.
Yesterday when temp was high, his breathing was quick and deep. When temp went down, breathing became normal.
All these are normal? Any medication is needed?
How long it will take to recover?
Sorry for the long query.

Brief Answer:
could indicate infection viral most common

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your description and previous query I understand that you have been giving adequate liquids.
Despite that urine output is less.
The fever could no longer be attributed to heat dehydration.
With cold and cough I think there is a respiratory infection mostly viral.
You need to get your child examined by your pediatrician thoroughly to rule out ear nose throat or chest infection and assess his dehydration.
Giving over the counter drugs may be harmful at this age.
Do consult your pediatrician soon.
Continue current liquids and feeding as you are giving now.
Viral infection may take upto a week to settle.
Wishing your child good health and speedy recovery.

Brief Answer:
it might settle

Detailed Answer:
That is good.
It might settle in a week.
However if fever continues along with cold and cough get your baby examined.
If active and playful no need to worry.
