Question: Hi Sir,

I am 29 male,Previous week i had a health check up and sonography of liver shows i have fatty liver grade 3.And the test result describes as: Liver size is increased to 18.5 Cm in size, increased echotexture and has smooth margin. No e/o focal hypo or hyperechoic lesion seen.No e/o IHBR or EHBR.

My liver function test shows that my ggt is 80 and sgpt is 87.And all other parameters are in range, cholestrol level, blood sugar level and pressure is fine.

I used to take jung food and 1000ml of beer Every 2 Day In a week for last five year.

I had1300 ml of hard beer 32 Hours before and 1000 ml hard beer 13 Hours before the test. Do this make any significant change in my results. ?

Brief Answer:
Blood tests can be affected by drinking beer before testing

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Your liver is enlarged (normal upper limit is 14.5 cm) and there is fatty infiltration.

The ultrasound scan is not affected by drinking beer however the blood tests can be affected due to drinking beer. Drinking beer or any alcohol within a day or two of the test can cause abnormal results. Please do not drink for 48 hours when you go for blood test again.

It is important that you try and decrease your junk food and alcohol consumption because you are only 29 years old and your liver is showing signs of early alcoholic liver disease.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
Abnormal liver function tests can get back to normal in 3 to 6 months

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.

I meant that your drinking alcohol within 2 days from the ultrasound scan did not have any effect on the report and your fatty liver grade III is probably from your drinking and lifestyle including junk food habit from past 5 years.

It is important to know the cause of your enlarged fatty liver and for this you can consult a gastroenterologist doctor who is the specialist for liver problems.

The reversibility of fatty liver grade III depends on the cause. Many people can have fatty liver due to hereditary and therefore it might not be completely reversible.

Abnormal liver function tests can be brought back to normal if you follow strict lifestyle changes for 3 to 6 months in many patients.

Hope your query is answered.
