Suggest Treatment For Excessive Phlegm In The Throat

default
Posted on Wed, 24 May 2017
Question: Hello. I have been having an excessive amount of phlegm developing in my right lung. This has been going on since last September. At first I was told I had bronchitis. Then that I had pneumonia. After three rounds of antibiotics, it was still there. So I went to see a pulmonary specialist. She did blood tests, took sputum samples, did two CAT scans, and then finally ran a light down in my lung. She said she was going to send samples off to be analyzed. I go back to see her on Monday of next week. I wanted to do some checking around to see what another doctor thinks it might be, so I'll have an idea if she's correct.

Brief Answer:
This is basically to reach to the diagnosis.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
You had gone through bronchoscopy.
And this is the best way to diagnose undiagnosed lung problems.
Bronchoscopy and XXXXXXX (bronchoalveolar lavage) will tell you
1. Infection is there or not
2. If infection is there which type (bacterial, fungal, tubercular) of infection is there.
3. Which antibiotics will work on your infection (on the basis of culture and sensitivity report).
3. Malignancy is there or not. Since your age is above 50 years, you are at risk of lung malignancy.
So wait till report comes then start appropriate treatment.
So your doctor is mostly thinking about infective and malignant etiology. And bronchoscopy will mostly diagnose your problem.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
