Suggest Treatment For Excessive Itching

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Feb 2017
Question: I have an uncontrollable itch moving from day to day. Currently it is inhabiting my back and buttocks. Nothing shows on the skin proper the itch is under/in the skin.
I have taken hydroxyzine for over a year to calm the sensation, but it won't stop.
Is this a symptom of any underlying problem you are aware of?
Thank you. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Exclude underlying causes of itching

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.
Itching without rash can be due a number of underlying diseases like anemia, polycythaemia, thyroid diseases, diabetes, liver and kidney diseases, senile pruritus associated with old age or invisible itching due to atopic dermatitis.
I would recommend you to undergo certain tests to exclude these causes.
These are complete blood count, thyroid function tests, liver function tests, kidney function tests, fasting blood sugar and serum IgE levels.
Regards
Dr Asmeet
