Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: I have had 3 episodes of amnesia and severe balance control at work I never remember but I'm told I am still awake but really mumbling and I get brought to hospitals but nothing ever shows up in blood or cat scan. It last 1 time 1 hr and 2 other times 3-5 hours then I just go back to normal but tired with a little nausea . Very nervous. Need to know what test I could have to help. Afraid of major stroke I'm 54 yrs old and I'm going to a Neuro dr but appt take forever

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I fully understand your concern. Those symptoms could be could be in the setting of lack of blood supply to the brain.

First I don't know what sort of CT did you have, but I believe that blood vessels imaging is necessary, if you didn't already have it, an Angio CT, a scan of the blood vessels starting from the aorta and neck vessels is necessary to look for narrowing from atherosclerotic plaques which could either lead to temporarily insuffiecient blood flow to the brain or release clots to the brain.

Another source of emboli, blood clots, or transient arrhythmia with low perfusion would be the heart, for which apart from routine EKG which I suppose you had at the ER, Holter EKG, heart ultrasound, transesophageal ECHO might be performed.

Of course a full metabolic blood panel is necessary, but you state to have had that already.

I remain at your disposal for further questions.
