Question: I have epilepsy and I believe my low medicine level in the blood may be the cause of the dryness of the tongue that I have had wake me in the early morning for nearly two months. I have a slight throb in the lower brain and neck and wonder if a seizure is eminent. What might you suggest?

Brief Answer:
Other pathologies should be considered...

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

I understand that your doctor has left, however, your medical records are enclosed within the hospital/medical center where he was employed. So, another doctor (neurologist/family doctor) could revise your medical history/data and give you the most valuable advice.

So, it is necessary to get evaluated by a neurologist for the epilepsy. EEG is also needed to determine if seizure is eminent or other problems you might have.

Next, apart medicines side effects, there are other factors causing dry mouth, including:
- diabetes
- GERD
- oral thrush

So, it is necessary to get further examinations to exclude these pathologies:
- diabetes testing: fasting blood sugar, HbA1C, measuring blood sugar after eating
- pH study for GERD
- culture of oral swab for candida

Depending on the tests results, specific treatment will be prescribed. Meanwhile, I advise to:
- schedule appointment with a neurologist in your previous clinic and get further evaluated by him/her
- drink plenty of water
- keep a good oral hygiene

Hope it was of help! Let me know if you have further questions!
