default
Posted on Tue, 30 Sep 2014
Question: I ate at a new restaurant Thru. afternoon and when I returned home I felt real fatigue. I have not been having any problem with by bs I check it almost every morning. My numbers were always below 120. I at this time am not taking any blood sugar meds. Yesterday my BS was 250+ I also drank 2 beers on Wed.
I have recently had my left foot amputated and stumbled making the stump swell.
What do you think the cause would be for my elevated sugar?\

Brief Answer:
Glucose tolerance test is advised.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

The blood sugar level if Fasting early in the morning, should be less than 110 to say it normal. 110 to 126 is pre diabetic value.

The sugar level after 2hrs of eating food should be below 200 is considered diabetic.

You mentioned early morning average value less than 120. If that was more than 110 then you were at risk to be diabetic previously. At present diabetes could have entered which could diagnosed well on glucose tolerance test.

You din't mention why the amputation was done. whether the 250 is fasting or at what time after food.

The reasons for higher sugar value could be may be diabetes but can't rely on one sugar level.
Please get the glucose tolerance test done.

The other reasons could be the sugar value taken immediately after food(less than 1hr.). Or the stress from amputation. or the diabetes.

Hope this guides you. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.
