Suggest Treatment For Ear Pain With Sore Throat

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Sep 2014
Question: I am a 47 year old woman, I never get sick. I woke up 15 hours ago with severe pain in both ears and a sore throat. I am a Certified Medical Assistant and gave myself a strep test at work, which was negative. No fever, no other Sx, just this horrible severe pain bilaterally in both ears and a sore throat. If I yawn, I get some relief, but only for about 5 minutes.

Brief Answer:
throat infection with referred otalgia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.
In my opinion, you might be having infection of your throat causing referred pain in the ears.
If I were your treating doctor, I would have prescribed just anti inflammatory medicines like paracetamol + diclofenac combination drugs twice daily for 3 days.
Steam inhalation and hot saline gargle recommend ed.
If symptoms persists for more than 3 days, then I would suggest you to consult with the doctor and get evaluated.
Pennicillin antibiotics would be the first line of treatment for throat infection.
Avoid oily and cold items.
Hope my answers have helped you.
Pleased to help you further. Thanks.
