Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection

Posted on Thu, 30 Oct 2014
Question: Hi, 33 year old female here, so these are my symptoms......a few months ago I noticed two swollen, but movable lymph nodes, one on my neck and one in front of my ear. Lately, ive had some other strange symptoms like itchy scalp, weird feelings in my head and neck and my throat feels weird too, and most recently, a dull pain in my chest area below my collarbone. I should mention these symptons are only on my right side, including the swollen nodes. I should also mention, when I was pregnant with my second son about two years ago, I had this weird pressure in my RIGHT ear which eventually went away, then last year I had a bad respiratory infection and a few months later my very first ear infection of my life, right ear of course. Any answers would help, or just the reassurance thats it's not lymphoma or some other cancer, thank you.

Brief Answer:
Certainly not cancer/Not lymphoma!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully. Swollen nodes on the same side that you had an ear infection is totally understandable and explained by the infection. Also, nodes from cancers or lymphoma are large and often tend to be bilateral and not limited to one side. This for sure has nothing to do with a cancer. You have not reported any weight changes, night fevers, general malaise, etc. Lymphomas cannot cause symptoms limited just tone side of the body.

This very though of a possible cancer is not helping. The unilateral nature of these symptoms is really worrisome. I think you have a heightened concern about the right side of your head and neck region and this is itself is not helping you out of this. I will suggest you keep a relaxed and, stay calm and relax. It is true you have had more problems on the right side but certainly this should not be forever.

In all, not suggestive of cancer of lymphoma for various reasons cited. Be calm and relaxed over this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Do you think I should possibly see an ENT?

Brief Answer:
At this tie, NO!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the follow up.

At this time, seeing an ENT is not very necessary. However, if you should not feel better in the weeks ahead, then seeing one even for assurance and reassurance purposes would be good.

I wish you well.
