Question: Hello, I am a 46 year old registered NUrse. I have had 4 children who are now grown, I am not a smoker. I am 5' 10" tall and 240lbs. However I have a muscular build. I have been having pain in my left side. A dull and burning , annoying pain that can radiate toward my back. Then I would describe the pain in the back as almost flank pain. It is right be hind and almost below my frontal and back rib cage. I am relatively healthy as far as history goes. elevated cholesterol at 250 or so and normal aches and pains of a nurse and 46 years old. Any idea what that could be? Two years ago I had a colonoscopy due to distant family history of colonoscopy cancer and positive precancerous polyps with my parents. I did have a precancerous polyp and that was removed and had a colonoscopy one year later to recheck and that was clean. This has been going on for a year or so and seems to be getting worse. The pain comes and goes. Please help me.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to spasm of back muscles

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details provided. He back and flank pain could be due to muscle spasms. Hot compress should provide relief. I would insist you to get an X Ray of Lumbosacral spine - AP and Lateral done and to share the report using the facility on the upper right of this page. For the rest, a thorough clinical examination is required but that is beyond the scope of this online discussion.

Let me know if I could provide any specific assistance.

Regards
