Suggest Treatment For Dry Mouth Caused By Myrbetriq Intake

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Jul 2014
Question: My 89 year old mother must treat her over active bladder AND Glaucoma. She is currently using Myrbetriq 25mg once a day. And Zioptan eye drops for her Glaucoma. The Myrbetriq leaves her mouth very dry. The Zioptan causes her eyes to be red. In the past she used Vesicare for OAB and Lumigan for Glaucoma.
These OAB medicines indicate interaction issues with Glaucoma.
The dry mouth is the primary side effect that needs resolving.
Can you suggest any resolution?

She takes her bladder medicine at bedtime. And sometimes awakes feeling fatigued. Her tiredness can stay with most of the day. She also has a poor appetite.

Brief Answer:
Side effects of Mybetriq. needs changing of drug

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to the forum. I went through the query and understood your concern.

With her clinical conditions and drugs she is using the main culprit may be mybetriq as this can increase her heart rate and also BP and can cause palpitations(so not indicated in uncontrolled hypertension) and also can cause Glaucoma (Contraindicated in glaucoma patient).

Along with this it can reduce the secretions so your mother will feel dryness of mouth, decreased appetite, lack of energy and also dizziness or fatigued. These symptoms may improve over a period of 8 weeks.

So the best resolution may be changing the drug for OAB like tricyclic antidepressant with bladder training. Avoid oily and salty food. Regular checking of TSH levels for thyroid care and sugar levels should be done.

For glaucoma if she was good with Lumigan then she can continue the same.

In summary I suggest you discuss with her treating doctor regarding changing her drug for OAB and glaucoma (Lumigan) because of the contraindications and her illness/side effects. This will help her.

I hope this information helps you and answered all your queries. Feel free to ask if any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.

Wish you and your family very good health.
Regards
