Question: I have a dry hacking cough I cough so hard at times I swear I am going to cough up a lung. Once in a while I am able to cough up a little phelpm and when I do it is thick greenish yellow. Went to the pharmacy and pharmacy suggested I take mucin ex DM 12 hour. Still have coughing spells and not much improvement, slept pretty well last night however, I was so sleepy I fell asleep on the couch for another 2 and 1/2 hours and woke up real sweaty

Please see description

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back. If i were your treating doctor then i would have advised following things:

- Take Diphenhydramine + Dextromethorphan 1 TSf thrice a day for 5 days.
- Take hot water in a cup, add 1 table spoon salt in it. Perform gargles (mouth wash) with it three times a day for at least 3 days. It will give soothing effect.

AVOID:
> Chilled water
> Drinks
> Spicy food

Hopefully you will see improvement in 2-3 days. If condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital and get an appointment for a Pulmonologist. He will examine you & will prescribe antibiotic therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
