Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough In A Child
Question: My son 3 yrs and 2 months was having dry cough and running nose for the past 3 days. Yesterday night he was not able to sleep because of severe cough and pain in the ears. His temperature also increased to 100.5. Visited a pediatrician this morning and his observations were red ear drum and clear chest. He has prescribed the following medicines: 1.augmentin duo 7.5ml 2 times for 5days 2. Piriton cs 3.5 ml 3 times for 3 days 3. P125 7.5 ml 4 times if temp above 100 4. Lido zone ear drop 1 drop 3 times for 3 days.. is it OK to follow the prescription coz I am worried if the dosage will make myou son further weak

I have gone through the query.Fever with cough and cold can also cause earache due to associated fluid collection in inner air.
Augmentin duo contains amoxycillin 200 mg/5ml and the dose is 30-60 mg/kg/day.Average weight of a 3 year old child is 14 kg so 600 mg/day (7.5 ml twice a day) is OK.
Similarly piriton cs syrup which contains an anti allergic and cough suppressant is also prescribed in appropriate dosage.
Dose of paracetamol 7.5 ml (comes between 10-15 mg/kg/dose)is also as per weight.
So I won't get worried as the dosage are appropriate and at this dose side effects are usually not seen.
If you notice any breathing difficulty or if condition dies not get improved after 3-4 days please consult your pediatrician.
