Brief Answer:
Better to go for antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

your symptoms are most probably due allergic reaction thereby secondary bacterial infection.

You still need an antibiotic therapy considering your age and a mixture of factors contributing to disease like allergy, dust, seasonal effects and most important is the change in the colour and consistency of phlegm.

Full course of antibiotics at this moment will eliminate the risk of infection spreading to lower lung zones.

People closer of above to 60 years are more prone to develop pneumonia.

I conclude that you initiate antibiotic course.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Bronchoscopy and CT chest will help to detect accumulated plum.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Instead of Amoxicillin, its better to go for Azithromycin or Moxifloxacin.
This will help in complete clearance of infection as well as sputum plum both inside chest and deep in lungs.

Additionally syrup Zedex thrice a day will help to remove the mucus/plum quite quickly.

Tests like X ray chest,CT chest will help to detect any accumulated plum within the lungs.Likewise Flexible bronchoscopy will also help.

Many infection causing organisms are present in the environment which get transmitted during cold.

You can know through sputum culture and sensitivity test if infected.

Syrup Zedex will help in breaking the thickened mucus and plum.

Often many over the counter prescriptions for cold are associated with side effects like lethargy, tired feel, difficulty in breathing etc.Hence better to avoid them.

In future I advise you to get x ray chest and start prophylactic antibiotics of right choice.

Thank you.
