Suggest Treatment For Dizziness, Congestion And Vomiting During Flying

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Nov 2014
Question: I had two questions. One of them is:
1. I have this severe air sickness. Last time that I traveled while landing, I was almost going to faint. I felt I like I would vomit any time and I simply can't describe I felt dizzy, congested, and extremely uncomfortable. I have to travel again after 2 months, for which I am very afraid now as I feel I would become unconscious because of my problem. Please advise what can be done to reduce the problems faced during flying?

1 month back I visited a doctor and he said there is a hole in my eardrum, which is neither large enough nor very small. Is a surgery required in all such cases?

My present symptoms are giddiness, hyper acidity and colds at times.

My first question is very important at the moment, so If I can't get the answers of both of them, you may reply to the first one only.

Thanks, let me know if any other information is required.

Brief Answer:
Chronic Sinusitis, Reflux, Motion Sickness

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Get a plain Sinus CT Scan done. This will help check for Chronic Sinusitis which can explain all your symptoms.

2. If your Sinus CT Scan is normal, cervical spine X-rays, a neck doppler, an MR Angiography and blood pressure measurements, anti acidity treatment will be required as these conditions may also lead to your symptoms. Motion Sickness is vehicle specific. Do you get these symptoms in other modes of travel?

3. You may leave the small ear perforation alone; in fact it may prevent severe ear barotrauma while flying.

4. Use of anti allergic decongestants, steam inhalation and nasal decongestant drops before a flight will help.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
