Suggest Treatment For Dizziness And Vertigo

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Feb 2016
Question: Several mornings ago I found myself dizzy on awakening. I believed the vertigo was due to a postural problem
in bed as my right side of my neck was odd. I did the Epley manuever. Today however out for a walk in
bright sunshine I found myself canting to the right instead of going straight ahead.

Brief Answer:
The possibility of stroke must be considered.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

SAMe doesn't commonly cause dizziness, it is not a very usual side effect. So other causes must be taken into consideration as well.

A common cause is inner ear problems, an organ very much involved in balance.

Spinal cervical problems due to chronic degenerative changes may be accompanied by dizziness as well due to compression of the upper cervical nerves also involved in balance.

A third cause though, the one which must be most carefully looked at due to the risks it represents is a vascular cause, a stroke. The description you make of veering to one side may be in the setting of a stroke in the posterior brain areas which is a serious matter as there is the risk of more lesions ensuing. You don't mention whether you have any issues with your heart or blood vessels making you a high risk individual, but even if that is not the case your age alone is a risk factor and calls for attention. For that reason I suggest an evaluation for other neurological signs and possibly imaging exams of the brain and blood vessels.

I remain at your disposal for further questions.
