Suggest Treatment For Difficulty Breathing And Cough With History Of Asthma

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Sep 2014
Question: 32 yet old male. Had bad case of reflux, got endoscopy (inflamed esophagus), a day later started coughing and aches bad at night.

Went 3 weekend coughing terrible, turns out it was asthma causing the cough. Primary Dr. put me on 5 day 40mg prednisone, Advair, Albuterol. Peak flow was 300.

Day 4 it is finally getting better but still getting crackle sounds and wheezing in lungs. Feels better to cough really hard over and over to get mucus out of my lungs. But doesn’t come out easy.

Still short of breath walking up a small grade of a hill. I have to stop at the top and rest. I’m a 3-4 mile a day runner so this is certainly abnormal for me.

I had a history of asthma due to cats when I was young, but I have never had asthma in at least 15 years until I had this case of reflux. I feels like I still have reflux at night but GI doctor says to just wait 30 days for further treatment then Prilosec 2X daily.

I just want to get my breath back so I can exercise again. But any breath bigger then 75% makes me cough bad. Last peak flow was 360

Is there anything else I should be doing to get my lungs back to normal?

Brief Answer:
Try chest physiotherapy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query with diligence.

You were given the right treatment, so nothing to worry about that.

Your doctor is treating you right, so please follow the doctor's prescription correctly.

Your peak flow is normal at 360; nothing to worry about that.

I would suggest you to do deep breathing exercises, blowing a balloon for chest exercise, and try chest physiotherapy could get better soon.

Keep in regular follow up with your doctor.

Regards,
