Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea, Nausea And Weakness

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Nov 2014
Question: I am experiencing moments of weakness, being nauseated, and having to run to the bathroom a lot with diarrhea. I think I have become lactose intolerant since after eating anything with milk or yogurt and even ice cream, I become very ill. I do have an enlarged liver. What could be my problem?

Brief Answer:
Could be lactose intolerance or liver issues

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
Lactose intolerance is very common in adults. It can cause nausea, stomach pains, gas and diarrhea, but does not cause all these symptoms in all patients. If this is what you have then you can either avoid dairy products or buy lactase tablets and take them when you want to eat dairy. I have many patients with this that are able to enjoy occasional dairy products just by adding some lactase tablets along with the dairy foods. It is also true that liver problems can cause nausea and diarrhea. I am glad that your gastroenterologist is going to check your blood tests and an ultrasound. After those tests they should be able to tell you whether or not your liver or gallbladder is the cause. In the mean time I suggest avoiding dairy products and high fat foods. I hope you are feeling better soon.
