Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea And Vomiting In Infant
Question: Hi sir
this s XXXXXXX mother of a 9 month old female child..yesterday my child consumed rice with rasam.. by midnight she vomited everything. .and morning she has some loose stool..and nd for breakfast she consumed idly and again she vomited after 2 hours..till now 3 times she had loose stool and 3 times vomit.. she s very weary...can I give mothers milk..and Pl. provide me some suggestions for not making her weak and also to control dehydration..

Loose stools and vomiting at this age is usually viral infection.
It may last a few days.
Few suggestions
1. Oral rehydration solutions like electral. This can be given as one or two spoons every 15 minutes to keep your baby hydrated.
2. I usually prescribe zinc drops at 0.5 ml daily for two weeks.
Zinc helps in faster recovery.
3. Rice based diet like idli and kanji can be given safely.
4. For vomiting I usually prescribe ondansetron syrup 2ml thrice daily before feeds to control vomiting.
Ensure she passes urine atleast six to eight times a day.
As long as she is active with good urine output no need to worry.
If symptoms worsen or if she becomes dull with low urine output consult your doctor immediately.
Wishing your child good health.
