Posted on Wed, 10 Feb 2016
Question: I have been suffering with a stomach bug for around 10 days. I have been eating but nothing stays put fir long. Im not vomiting. Just diarrhoea. I went to the doctor who put me on thecusual antibiotics for this condition but what I was concerned about was that my bloid pressure was 160 over 110. The GP said I should have it checked again when I was better. I'm not better yet after 5 days and feeling anxious to just leave it. Is it okay just to put it down to being ill? I don't want to ve neurotic about it either

Brief Answer:
Blood pressure increases during illness but control after you get better!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this stomach bug and the increased blood pressure. This is typical to have increased blood pressure during illness because of the added stress of the disease. It would be best to get the numbers controlled when you are no longer sick and in a good state of health. This is why I will recommend you stay calm and don’t get neurotic. It is good practice to control blood pressure inn multiple visits before concluding on any diagnosis and starting treatment. Avoiding concurrent illnesses is also a good way to go.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Good diet, 150mins of exercise weekly,........

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.

For now, exercise often(recommended is 150min/week), eat healthy, avoid excessive salt intake and stop being anxious. These would help. Above all, control this bp when you are again feeling grew: free of the stomach bug!

I wish you well.
