default
Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2016
Question: For several months, about once a month, I have a spell of diarreah, where I feel nauseated, sweaty and almost like I will faint for a few minutes. Afterward, I am back to normal. I did travel to the Dominican Republic last Feb., where I contracted an intestinal bug which got better on it's on after about six weeks. I did not go to a Dr. because of it. Any help you may offer is greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Intestinal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
1) Yes, you might have traveller's diarrhea which had not been treated properly due to which intestinal worm might be shifted into dormant phase.
2) You should do stool examination specifically for ovum and parasites, routine blood tests and USG abdomen.
3) Based on stool report, appropriate antibiotics must be started.
4) Another rare possibility based on your symptoms - sweating + diarrhea + abdominal pain suggest rare possibility of gastrinoma; this is simple (non-cancer) tumor but secrete some hormones due to which person develop these symptoms. For confirmation of these you might require some specific CT scan particular for gastrinoma.
5) If your physician suspect these condition based on your symptoms + normal stool report (no presence of infection) then only you should proceed for this.
