Posted on Thu, 18 Feb 2016
Question: My 18 months daughter stool frequency is unusual from last 4-5 days. She takes meal frequently and passes semi-solid stool about 5-6 times a day. Earlier she used to pass stool not more than 2 times a day. She is also having bad diaper rash .
Otherwise she is playful and passed urine as usual. Please advice.

Brief Answer:
ORS is the mainstay of treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Your child could be suffering from diarrhea and the mainstay of treatment is ORS (oral rehydration solution) to make up for the salt and water lost. Antibitoics are not required unless stool is blood stained. It is preferable to keep the diet rice based for the next few days. You can give some Zinc supplement like Syr. Zinconia 5 ml once daily for a week.

Apply aloe vera lotion or some emollients topically over the perianal excoriation. Keep the area clean and dry. Avoid putting on nappies for the time being, if feasible.

Be patient. Things should be back to normal in 3-5 days.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
