Suggest Treatment For Depression And Poor Concentration

Question: My teenager has been a eurenesis (sorry about the spelling - bed wetter) since 3. He has been treated on 4 separate occasions with medication and it has been successful for a time. He is now 15 and is still having the odd wetting incident. He has been medication free for 3 years. In school I noticed his concentration levels are very poor. His grades are falling and he tells me he cant concentrate when trying to study. I'm worried there may be a link with the bedwetting and the lack of concentration. Maybe not. He is quite healthy otherwise. Maybe a pollen allergy and the odd bout of tonsillitis. Can anything be done about his poor concentration. Should I try a supplement. He eats quite well and is fit. but if you ask him something, he forgets it immediately. you could call him and call him and he never seems to answer even though he says he hears. I'm Just concerned as the next few years will be all about exams and study.

Brief Answer: It could be due to poor self esteem Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query. I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through. One common possibility I have noticed in my clinical practise is that the patients of eneuresis have a low self esteem and low confidence. Sometimes the things can get further worse to develop depression as well. He should meet a psychiatrist who can assess him for depression. Imipramine or escitalopram should he agood drug to treat depression. The second possibility is that many patients of eneuresis have comorbid adhd as well with predominant symptom of inattention. This may persist in adult oife as well. A trial of methylphenidate in improving concentration should be good. Regarding the enuresis problem, behavioural therapy is the therapy of choice for his age. Imipramine can give a headstart to behavioural therapy. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you. If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
