Suggest Treatment For Delayed Periods With White Vaginal Discharge

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend 4 months ago n took an ipill the next day. After a couple days I got my periods and have been getting them for the past 4 months regularly. But I have missed my last period (the 5th one). And also there is a whitish discharge which is not so pungent but just a little slimy. Are there chances that I'm pregnant?! If yes, how can I terminate it?! And if not, then why have I missed my period?!

Brief Answer:
Can be due to stress.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The delay in periods 4 months after having an unprotected sex is not due to pregnancy.
The delay in periods in this month may be due to hormonal imbalance, mental stress, emotional upset, irregular diet habit, high prolactin level, over weight or extreme loss, pelvic infection etc.
You should wait at least 1 week to get period naturally. If you don't get it, then progesterone pill Like Norethisterone can be given to induce period. Kindly, procure a complete prescription from your doctor.
You may require one pelvic ultrasound scan and complete hormone test to rule out the underlying cause & confirm the diagnosis in absence of period. You must consult with your local GYNECOLOGIST regarding this.
In addition, you would take healthy diet (LOW CARBOHYDRATE) with more green vegetables, drink more water, keep bowel habit regular, avoid mental stress by meditation or yoga, control body weight by regular physical exercise and maintain genital hygiene properly.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thanks for the answer but Should I still take a pregnancy test, jus to be sure?! And please explain the whitish discharge. I usually get them a week before my periods n then for a couple days after. Plus I've been travelling a lot could that have caused this?! Also I've heard stories of women getting their periods during their first trimester! Any chance I am one of them?!

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy not likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Taking pregnancy test will not help. It will be negative. You can do it to allay your anxiety.
The whitish discharge can be due to the hormonal changes that are causing the periods delay. Travelling also causes an increase in discharge and delay in periods.
The periods that happen during pregnancy are due to improper attachment of placenta. Usually there is irregular spotting and never a full regular flow. In your case, pregnancy is practically not possible after four proper periods.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thank you for answering my question and taking away half my stress. But please explain to me the difference between spotting and normal periods, if any, just for satisfaction.
Also, if I'm not pregnant(tnk god!) then could it be a cyst or yeast infection?!

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Spotting is an irregular mild bleeding that can be managed by using a panty liner only. Pad is not needed. If you had a normal periods with a heavy flow on 2 days and then gradually decreasing flow and then stopping on day 5 or 6 then it was not spotting. It was a normal period.
Just wait for a week for your periods to start.

But my period has been delayed by nearly 2 weeks. Should I go to the doctor to get a pill to jumpstart it? Or should I try to obtain abortion pills?!
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Rakhi Tayal (40 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Do not take abortion pills.

Detailed Answer:
Abortion pills are not recommended without a confirmed pregnancy. You can consult a gynecologist and get the pills for bringing your periods.
A vaginal swab test is needed to rule out any vaginal infections and ovarian cysts can be ruled out only after an ultrasound scan. Do consult a gynecologist and get the tests done.
