Question: My son has dark discoloration on both of his eyelids (it is a larger spot on the right eye) he says it isn't raised and isn't sore and doesn't feel rough. I am trying to figure out what could cause this.

Brief Answer:
Is it possible to upload an image? If yes, please send one to us for review

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this dark discoloration of the eyelids that your son has. The most common cause of this condition is trauma. However, this needs to be supported by information from your son whether he was involved in any such circumstances.

If that is not the case, I will like to know for how long this has been going on and also obtain an image for review. To upload an image, click on the upload a file link to the right of your dashboard and follow the instructions. I will review it and get back to you with more insights.

There is no emergency at this time. I will like to get all the facts before concluding on a possible cause and establish a management plan. With the above information, I would do that.

I hope to hear from you. If getting an image is impossible, please let me know as well and we would try to deal with the available information, though more would be clearly better. as soon as I hear from you, I would be back with my final thoughts and recommendations. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
This looks more like allergy!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed both images. The discoloration is more suggestive of a longstanding reaction to something the body doesn't tolerate. If he applies any special lotion to this area, even for treatment purposes, I will suggest that he stops. They are clearly not caused by trauma.

I will like to see what this discoloration looks like at least 1week after nothing special is being done to it. This would be the best way to get this assessed. At this time, it presents no threat to life and we rather be gentle and logical than go out and be aggressive from the start.

For how long has this been going on? Is he having any other health concern?

I hope to hear from you. I wish him well.
