Suggest Treatment For Cystic Acne

Question: Hello, I have been battling severe cystic acne. Now all of them have cleared and have left behind some scars. Since a couple of weeks I have begun noticing facial redness. My face and ears feel hot and the scar regions on the face become bright red. This usually happens if I take a nap during day time. When I wake up after a nap I find my face red and inflamed. However this doesn't happen when I rest at night. I wake up with a fresh face in the morning. Just occurs if I take a nap for more than 30 mins or when I feel stressed. Please help. This redness looks ugly.

Answer few questions

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I can understand your concern but I need to ask you few questions:
Are you using any medicines for the face?
Is this redness associated with any itching, burning or other symptoms?
Apart from sleep is this redness seen on exposure to sun, drinking hot fluids or any other activities?

No doctor. I am just using sebamed moisturizer at night. And before going out I use bio derma sun screen. The sun screen works well and is not triggering the redness. Redness often comes with facial heating. No itching or burning sensation . Since a couple of weeks, if I feel angry, tensed embarrassed my face heats up,similar to situations where people flush. Apart from that during a nap in day time only I wake up to find a hot red blotchy face.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be rosacea, apply Metronidazole gel

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

According to your complaints it could be rosacea.

If I were your treating doctor I would recommend you to apply Metronidazole gel on the red areas twice daily for 4-6 weeks.

It is a prescription drug and should be used under the supervision of the doctor.

Dr Asmeet

Thanks Doctor. Is it safe use any medication for leftover scars? What about Chemical peels? Will they aggravate the current skin condition? My skin gets irritated pretty quickly these days and I am not using any medication except moisturizer.

Brief Answer:
Topical medicines not effective in scars, can go for chemical peels

Detailed Answer:
Topical medicines are not very effective in the treatment of scars.
Topical metronidazole will help in reducing the redness.
Even salicylic acid peels will take of the redness as well as superficial scars.
It should be ok for irritable skin as well but done under the supervision of the dermatologist.
