Question: Hi... My baby is 15 months old and has in the recent past suffered from coughing weezing and breathing problem. He has been advised tab montair lc for a year and seroflo 125 for two years. Also read that seroflo is not advised on babies less than 4 years. Would like to know if these medicines are safe or if they carry side effects esp using over such long period of time

Brief Answer:
Adrenal gland and bone mineral density monitoring

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help you. I understand and respect your concern for your child, which is why I shall help with information on both these medications.

Starting with montair LC which is perfectly safe for your 1 year old, with hardly any side effects. If a test dose has been administered and no side effects have been noted, then there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Your son can take this medication for the long-term.

Now coming to seroflo, although many children have been advised serolfo for a long-term and have completed their course without any noted abnormalities; a few children have reported a few abnormalities. They are:
-Altered adrenal function
-Reduced bone mineral density

But this is nothing to worry about, as all children who are advised long-term serolfo use are scheduled for regular monitoring in order to observe and address any abnormalities noted with the adrenal gland or bone density. So, all you need to do is make sure you keep in touch with your son's doctor once the course has been initiated and make sure all goes well with the adrenal gland and bone growth.

I hope you find my response helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
