Brief Answer:
Cough when persists can exert pressure over the abdomen.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting your query,

Cough when persists for quite some time, it can exert pressure over the abdominal muscles. To get relief, you need to treat the cold.

I would suggest you to take any syrup available over the counter which contains dextromethorphan, chlorpheniramine; which will help in suppressing the cough centers thereby relieving the pain while coughing.

If you find any associated sputum production in yellow or green color, you are required to start on antibiotics.

Meanwhile, I would also suggest you to do the following:
- steam inhalation twice daily
- may consider the use of humidifiers so as to prevent further pharyngeal dehydration
- betadine gargle available OTC can be used for sore throat if any,
- drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

Hope I have answered to your query,
Please feel free to discuss further or else kindly close and rate.
Regards
