Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylosis is a possiblity
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
It seems like you are developing Cervical spondylosis slowly.
Yes, when you sit for long hours in front of computer, you tend to get pain in neck and shoulder. This is expected.
Here are my suggestions to you:
- You could get an x-ray of the cervical spine both PA and lateral views and get it checked by an orthopedician. If need be, a MRI can be done on a later date.
- I would suggest cervical immobilization in the form of soft cervical collar that you could wear around your neck. This is very helpful in preventing progression of the disease, and also giving you relief.
- Neck and upper back stretching exercises are good for your symptoms. You must do them regularly. You could learn these exercises from a Physiotherapsit initially, and do them routinely. This would prevent spasm of the muscles.
- You need to avoid sitting for long hours in front of the computer. Give frequent breaks and move around.
- If the pain is severe, you could take analgesics like Brufen or Voveran.
- Try hot water bag or fomentation locally as well.
Hope this helps you. Get well soon.
