Question: I currently have MS and I take different pain medications, one of which is a 25mg fentanal patch. Lately, I have not been able to have a bowel movement in 3 days. I take stool softeners everyday but they don't seem to be helping me. I have gone to the ER before due to this issue, it was a lot worse back then and I'm scared the same thing is going to happen to me again. what can I do to help this problem?

Brief Answer:
its side effect of fentanyl

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

Constipation is a well known side effect of opoid analgesics like fentanyl.

As stool softeners are not helping then you can advance to gut motility enhancing drugs like levosulpride. But for the prescription you need to see your local doctor.

Initially you may take it twice a day, and when your motions get regular you can reduce it to once a day.

Hope i have been helpful.
