Question: My 3yo daughter has history of constipation. Most kids do though. We are not sure on her last bowel movement. At the most recent, it was Thursday, 4 days ago. More than likely it was further back than that. She complained of upset tummy Saturday evening and vomited once Sunday morning. No fever or signs of any illness. Today she has been passing foul smelling gas and even Belches that smell of farts or feces. We are about to give ped glycerin enema. Once in the past we had similar occurrence, however her vomit smelled of feces. our dr had us take her to children's ER to rule out bowel obstruction. She was fine and issue resolved with miralax. What do you recommend? ER again?

Brief Answer:
Constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
The enema is the best idea for niw. If successful, she will be relieved of course. The ER is not necessary for this and I wouldn't go. There really is no suspicion of bowel obstruction here. Once the enema empties her bowel, I recommend restarting the miralax. At that point, it is a good idea to consult with a pediatric gastroenterologist who will, hopefully, be able to determine why this happens in the first place. I recommend consulting with your doctor about finding a good gastroenterologist.

Thank you for the quick reply. Right after I submitted the question, the enema was in the works and really got things moving. She had been holding onto a lot. The constipation was not that bad either. She seems to have more issues now that she goes on the potty rather than diaper. She is feeling and looking much, much better. I believe the cause of constipation is not enough fiber and chronically holding it. She is a picky eater. We try to pack higher fiber fruit pouch squeezes into her. We will also be adding miralax back in and scheduling an appt with GP possibly gastro.
