Brief Answer:
It could be habitual constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. I think your kid is having habitual constipation. Usually vomiting which is secondary to constipation and stomach pain is often dubbed as gastritis and the patient is started on anti reflux measures, which are not required. I have certain questions and suggestions for you.

Questions:
1. Did your kid pass motion or meconium on day one of life
2. Does he pass motion in a standing or sitting posture and does he by force stop the stool
3. Does he have any bleeding along with hard stools
4. How much milk does he consume per day
5. Does he eat fruits and vegetables (fibre diet) appropriately.
6. Does he vomit a lot after feeds and after consuming spicy food
7. Is there any relation with the stomach pain and food timing

Suggestions:
1. Natural methods are the best to relieve constipation.
2. Constipation is a risk factor for UTI
3. Maximum milk consumption per day should not exceed 300-400ml
4. Minimum 3-4 cups of fruits and vegetables to be consumed per day
5. Toilet training - that is - sitting in XXXXXXX type of lavatory daily at the same
time will help a lot.
6. Papaya is the best fruit to relieve constipation.

Management:
1. Treatable causes like hypothyroidism should be ruled out by a Free T4 and TSH blood test
2. Surgical options like Hirschsprung's disease are known to present late and I suggest a rectal biopsy and histopathological examination.
3. Toilet training is extremely important
4. Use Peglec powder 0.7g per kg body weight per day single dose, mixed in fruit juice at night for 8 weeks and meanwhile when this drug works to soften his stool, which will help in allaying his fear to pass motion, you can toilet train him.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

Brief Answer:
Medicines are safe. Regularizing - toilet training

Detailed Answer:
Hi..thank you for the trust in me & health care magic. The laxativs which I prescribed is safe. Its a powder form with long standing action. But regularizing the bowel habits involves change of life style. I suggest the following -
1. Daily early to bed & early to raise at same time.
2. Daily morning same time sitting in the potty or lavatory for a specified time, whether initially stools come or not.
3. Give papaya daily before sleep
4. Minimum 1.5 liters of water to be consumed per day.
5. Milk ingestion to be limited to maximum 300-400ml per day.
6. Give 3-4 cups of vegetables per day.
Further clarifications & consultations are welcome.

Hello Doctor,
Thanks for the response, we started following your advice and feel some improvement. He is urinating more since he is drinking lot of fluid, is this fine? we had the same issue 2 weeks back and took the urine test and came normal. Can you also please suggest his food and home remedy when he gets the pain.

what are all your recommended food for breakfast, lunch and dinner
how do we find out the pain is because of acidity or constipation if he gets pain. If its because of constipation, is there a home remedy which we can try for immediate relief and the same for acidity.

Thanks
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Food habits for constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hi..very happy to hear that your kid is showing some improvement on my advice. I would like to congratulate you and also share your happiness. Coming ot your queries -
1. Urinating more while drinking lots of fluid is quite normal and doesn't require any urine examination. Its a healthy sign.
2. Finding pain due to constipation or gastritis -
a) Gastritis is very very uncommon in this age group - so in medicine there is a saying that when we think about rare things first, we are rarely right (Smiles).
b) Usually gastritis pain is in the upper centre part of abdomen and constipation might be localised all over the abdomen or to the left lower quadrant.
3. Home remedy for pain -
a) For acidity pain you can use some cold milk or cold buttermilk or sweetened curds.
b) For constipation pain - you can use some XXXXXXX warm water as it is a good bowel stimulant.
4. There are specific recommended foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I suggest you follow high fibre diet like lots of fruits and vegetables and reduce cereals and milk (maximum milk consumption per day is 300-400ml).
Happy to help any time.
