Brief Answer:
Bed rest, mostly

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern. Thank you for your question.

There are a lot of cold medication that do not interact with the heart rhythm, nor they interact with the current medication to cause or exacerbate heart rhythm disturbances. Also, he has had a successful ablation, so there is that. I would recommend mostly the conventional treatment of the common cold, such as bed rest and drinking a lot of vitamin-containing fluids and hot beverages, such as tea, for two to three days. In case of a cough, which is associated with sputum, then the medication that I would recommend is acetil cistein 200 mg, thrice a day, or 600 mg once a day. Besides that, if this is the case, I would also recommend:
- a plain chest X-ray, postero-anterior and lateral, to evaluate whether there is lung tissue or lung lining problem that may be underlying this cough
- a complete blood count - to see whether white blood cells, and especially polimorphonuclear count, are raised
- an analysis of the sputum - to assess the offending agent that is causing the cough.

I hope I have been of help. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.

Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
