Question: my 89 year old father who lives out of town is very sick with colitis. he was in hospital for that and pneumonia 4 weeks ago. He is home and has been taking antibiotics. My sister is going to see him tomorrow as he asked her to. He sounds worse on the phone that he ever has.
Breifly, he has always been very healthy. He has Parkinsons but otherwise has been in excellent health.
His wife ( my step mother) is sick with the flu right now.
What can we do to help him, aside from the hospital>

His wife is already sick it would be ideal to keep under isolation so that your father is not deteriorate again with the virus.
Second your father needs careful nursing at home. Chest physiotherapy so that the fluids from the lungs are drained properly.
It is good to keep a humidifier in his room so that the lung fluids are moist and thin.
Good sleep would recover the person, the body immunity works well during sleep. Encourage to sleep well.
No smoking or fire inside the home as it can emit smoke and delay the healing post pneumonia.
Keep measuring his heart rate and fever when he is asleep that is ideal and record it.
