Suggest Treatment For Cold And Cough In 3 Year Old

Question: Hello Dr my daughter is 3 years old and is weight is 12.5 kg. She has cold and is coughing (no congestion it looks like just coughing). Took her temperature it is 99.4. I have given her Relent plus 3 ml. Should I continue or give timinic or any other medicine instead

Brief Answer: For mild cold and cough it is enough Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writingto health care magic. Relent plus contains cetrizine which is an anti histamine to control cold. It also contains ambroxol which is mucolytic , which brings out secretions and mucous. For mild cold and cough this should work. You can continue relent plus for a day or two. Give her paracetamol for fever if more than 99 degrees measured in axilla. However A) if the running nose is more you need a decongestant too , a better alternative would be sinarest . I usually prescribe 3ml twice daily for such patients in my clinic. B) If cough doesn't settle it is better to get her examined for her throat and chest to look for evidence of wheezing or infection , which needs to be treated accordingly. Hello Dr thank you. But now she is getting fever around 100.7. We had given relent plus and once lastuss la. Since my doctor is out off town we showed her to some other doctor. She suggested pedia , bricanyl and allegra. She said her chest is clear and seems to have dry cough with mild fever as that time her fever was 99.4. My daughter is 3 yrs an weight is 12.3. Not sure if I should giver her the medicines she has suggested. Can you pls advise if we should or you would suggest some other medicine. Regards XXXXX

Brief Answer: Continue medicines Detailed Answer: Ccontinue the medicines which the new pediatrician has given now. Those are fine and sufficient enough to take care of your daughter's symptoms. Do not be concerned. Fever such as these usually lasts for 3 to 5 days. It should settle soon. Regards Dr Arun
