Suggest Treatment For Cold And Anxiety Induced Asthma

Question: Hi I had a bad head cold the last few days and now it has moved to my chest. When it started the mucus from my nose was yellow, now it is white. I also have an anxiety disorder and last night I believe I experienced an episode of anxiety induced asthma. My chest felt tight and I felt panicky. I was also pale. My heart was pounding. I could breathe but it felt like a panic attack. I have an albuterol inhaler and chose to use it and felt better after about 10 minutes. I went to work today and felt a bit wheezy and used my inhaler although it didn't seem to help as much. I felt panicky and left work early. I am currently taking 25 mg of Zoloft daily. I feel a though I need to clear my chest and I do sometimes bring something up and it feels clearer for a bit and then congested again. This is how it starts before I start feeling it tighten up and feel a bit breathless and it seems to take more effort to talk. Should I go to the ER for other meds. Is there anything I can do at home.

Brief Answer:
No worries

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and I understand your concern. Cold is usually followed by respiratory tract involvement and such symptoms like wheezing and congestion are very common.

You don't need to go to ER for it. Take your zoloft and rest for a while. No need to panic. Try some relaxation therapies. Take some decongestant for air way symptoms and use some home remedies like hot beverages a cup of tea or soup etc will help.

There is nothing to worry about. All you need is a little distraction to prevent anxiety induced panic attacks.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.
