Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pain, Constipation And Discomfort

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: Because of multiple surgeries and injuries, I have chronic pain. I see a doctor and take my medicine as prescribed. However, it makes me so constipated and I've tried all I know to try. I can rarely leave my house and live in discomfort in so many ways. I really need help and don't know were to turn. What should I do (short of giving up?)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Usually, when constipation is present in my patients, I try to find out what is causing it. In your case, the use of pain killers is often associated with constipation. Once you stop taking them, your problems with constipation will be over too.

For the moment, I advise to :
- increase water intake
- take more fiber rich foods. Fiber supplements containing psyllium can also help
- use laxatives like senna to ease bowel movement
- take lactulose to soften stool
- increase physical activity
- take probiotics to optimize intestinal flora

Hope it was of help!
